Grace Chia (b. 1973)
BIOGRAPHY
Grace Chia is the author of poetry collections womango (1998), Mother of All Questions (2017) and Cordelia (2012), which was shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize 2014 for poetry. She has published two short story collections, Every Moving Thing That Lives Shall Be Food (2016) and How To Hunger (2023). Her novels include The Wanderlusters (2016), White Cloud Mountain (2021) and The Arches of Gerrard Street (2021) and is the editor of the prose anthology We R Family.
Her writing is widely anthologised, including in Brooklyn Rail, Lyrikline, Asian Cha, Anthology of English Writing in Southeast Asia, Singapore Literature in English, Lines Spark Code, Making Kin, Mining for Meaning, Fish Eats Lion, A Luxury We Cannot Afford, From Walden To Woodlands, HOW2 (US), Blue Lyra Review (US), Stylus Poetry Journal (Australia) and translated for die horen (Germany), La Traductiere (France) and Knijzevne Novine (Serbia).
She was the Writer-in-Residence at Nanyang Technological University (with NAC support), Toji Cultural Center and Seoul Art Space Yeonhui, and has taught creative writing at NTU and SOTA. She has also been a judge for poetry competitions, including the Hawker Prize for SEA Poetry, Golden Point Award and National Poetry Competition. She was the first female writer from Singapore to be invited to the Austin International Poetry Festival, Queensland Poetry Festival and National Young Writers Festival in Australia and was featured numerously at the Singapore Writers Festival.
