an excerpt from Communion

they say
this is no time
no place
for communion, but here
is eden
and bread
and wine
and eve at his feet
the bread nibbled
the wine sipped
and hours spent
no deed left uninitiated
only a castration
but tell me today is no saturday
and i’ll say tomorrow is a sunday
and we shall have communion
not for the fruit we have bit
the songs left unsung
not for no glory of communion
we shall have communion
if just to say
this is a being
our being.
