Euginia Tan (b. 1991)
BIOGRAPHY
Euginia Tan is a multi-disciplinary writer based in Singapore. She has experience in various written forms including poetry, prose, translation and playwriting. Her third poetry collection, Phedra (Ethos Books) was nominated for the 2018 Singapore Literature Prize. Her poems and essays continue to be published widely in print and online. Her plays have been performed under several presentation platforms conducted by The Necessary Stage, Esplanade, Gateway Theatre, Silver Arts (National Arts Council), Centre 42, Theatre Boleh, etc.
She has undergone a mentorship with Wild Rice’s Resident Playwright Alfian Sa’at in 2025. In 2026, Euginia is one of eight playwrights writing for Wild Rice’s Young and Wild graduating cohort of young actors. In the same year, her short play SOAP will be published by Paper Jam, an independent initiative by poet Tse Hao Guang. She begins her MA in Creative Writing in August 2026.
For interdisciplinary works in text, Euginia has created several text-based works for Objectifs, Exactly Foundation, Raw Moves, Richard Koh Fine Art, Haridas Contemporary, Tapestry Project, Tusitala and Sing Lit Station, amongst others. Owing to her proficiency in other languages, Euginia completed a translation apprenticeship by the Singapore Book Council from December 2024 to May 2025. Her apprenticeship is supported by the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, under the Translation Talent Development Scheme.
Euginia’s poetry journey started with two self-published collections, Songs About Girls (2012) and Playing Pretty (2013). Her initial intent in self-publishing the two poetry collections was owing to her years of work as a youth volunteer for mental health advocacy, in hopes that a poetry collection could reach other readers lacking emotional support. The collections were sold independently at various bazaars, fairs and now-defunct BooksActually.
After the release of Playing Pretty, Euginia was selected to undergo the NAC Mentor Access Programme 2013 (mentored by Grace Chia-Krakovic). The manuscript from the Mentor Access Programme culminated into Phedra, published by Ethos Books in 2016. In 2018, Phedra was nominated for the Singapore Literature Prize in Poetry. To date, Euginia continues to contribute poems regularly for anthologies both online and in print.
