தமிழர் நிலை!

தமிழர் நிலை!

“மலைநாட்டுத் தமிழரிடம்
ஒற்றுமையும் இல்லை,
மணக்கின்ற தமிழ்மீது
பற்றுதலும் இல்லை,
இலைபோட்டு அழைத்தாலும்
வருவாரும் இல்லை
எண்ணத்தில் தெளிவில்லை
உயர்வில்லை” என்று,

தலைகாட்டும் எண்ணத்தைத்
தமிழ்க்கவிதை யாக்கித்
தனியாக இருந்திட்டேன்;
முத்தப்பன் என்பான்
நலங்கேட்டு நானிருக்கும்
இடம்நோக்கி வந்தான்;
நலமென்று நான்கூறி
‘அமரப்பா’ என்றேன்,

“வாதப்பன் நேற்றிங்கு வந்தானா?” என்றான்
‘வரவில்லை’ எனச் சொல்லி
விவரத்தைக் கேட்டேன்;

நாம்காண்ப தென்றால்;
பைந்தமிழர் நிலைஎன்ன
பகர்ந்திடுவாய்?’ என்றேன்
‘செத்துவரும் உன்பேச்சில்
உயிரில்லை!’ என்றான்;
சினங்காட்டி நடந்திட்டான்,
செயலற்றேன்’ என்றான்!

முத்தப்பன் உரைத்திட்ட
மொழிதன்னைக் கேட்டு,
மோதுகின்ற எண்ணத்தைக்
குழிவெட்டி மூடிச்
‘சத்தமற்ற சக்கைமனம்
சாயட்டும்!’ என்றேன்;
‘சாய்ந்தால்தான் தமிழர்நிலை
உயரும்’ எனப் போனான்!

The status of Tamils

The status of Tamils

“There is no unity
Among the Malayan (described as Malai Nadu) Tamils
Neither do they have attachment
Towards our fragrant Tamil
Even if we invite with a spread of banana leaf meal
No one turns up!
There is no clarity or nobility in their thoughts”—

I conveyed such emerging reflections
Into a Tamil poem and remained in solitude!
One named Muthappan came looking for me
Asking whether I am in good health:
I said, “I am well,”
and bade him, “Please be seated.”

“Did Vathappan come here yesterday?” he asked
I replied, “No, he didn’t come,” and requested details.
Muthappan said as follows:
“Thogaiappan came to see me yesterday,
Claiming he has the support of Thothappan and Thullappan.

I asked, ‘Why are you coming this way?’
We are forming an association in the name of the people of
Our ancestral village, and I am going to see Thogaiappar
At his noble place where he stays”

“If we are to form an association
For only ten of us, then what is the status
Of our fine Tamil community?”
When Muthappan retorted,
He said, “Your dying words do not have any soul in them”
“He walked away angrily and stood there
shocked and unable to move”

Having listened to what Muthappan said
I dug a hole to bury my moving thoughts
And said, “Let the bagasse heart collapse and fall”
“only if such collapses happen
Our status as Tamils will rise for the better,” he said and left.
